There are a ton of benefits when it comes to using a digital portfolio like allowing students to show their understanding of whatever they are learning. Students can share products they have made at school and it helps them document important learning milestones in their lives.
However, with digital portfolios comes a few challenges. For me having my own ePortfolio, I often have trouble coming up with a good reflection for each artifact. When I upload a project of mine it is hard to reflect about what you learned while making that project, so putting it into words is definitely the hardest part. These online portfolios our also beneficial to our academic career. As we go through these next 4 years of high school, it would be very helpful to keep our ePortfolio updated from all of our classes. This way whenever it comes time to apply for college, we will have this resource that basically shows all the different ways we have learned throughout out education. With that being said, ePortfolios are never perfect. I myself go make a few changes or adjustments to improve mine. One big change I could make is the amount of times I actually end up uploading. I should be uploading at least one time for each class every nine weeks as as of now I'm not quite doing that. If I start to add more, I will have a variety of artifacts and reflections to show colleges and other professional people. All in all I think a skill I now have is taking any piece of work that I have crafted, no matter what class or subject, and being able to reflect back to my learning. In the future, if I decide to make a professional portfolio, I will be able to use this skill in whatever job I have and I will be able to reflect on my learning even as an adult!

I enjoy these free write days a lot because I can just start typing about anything I want to and there are no boundaries to what I can write about. Today I wanna talk about all these school shootings that our happening and how awful they are. I think I get so affected by hearing all these shooting stories because one actually happened in my city at MHS. Seeing that something that extreme happened at one of the high schools where I live really made me cherish everything I had. It made me realize that something like this can happen to anyone and we need to be prepared.
It truly just discusses me that people, even students of the schools have it inside of them to actually kill random people that attend school with them for no other reason rather then being mad at something. That is just terrible and I can't even imagine what is was like for the parents who sent there kids off to school on a normal morning and that day they never came back. All because this person who had no clue what they were doing to families, decided to take a gun and shoot people who did not deserve to die at such a young age. I don't know why this world is so messed up but I hope one day all of this madness will be over. So today in class our teacher told us to pick a random object in the room and write from that objects point of view. Today I chose to write about a chair and how it would feel if it had emotions so here goes nothing.
Hey, I'm a chair and I have probably one of the worst jobs ever. Every single day I get sat on and mistreated by a bunch of random people who decide they need to sit rather than stand. Now don't get me wrong, sometimes it is for the good and I can help people. Like when someone is having a bad day or they are tired, they can just pop a squat on me and feel 10x better. Honestly these people need to appreciate me more because I am a strong talented thing and can hold you up for hours if needed. I just sit stay here in the school forever and I am used by everyone. I never get to have fun because I am at school serving my duty. For me I spend every single day of my life on a dirty old classroom floor just supporting all these random students that don't even care for me. Yes I do understand that I am only a chair but how does that make it right for people to sit all over me and not treat me respectfully. Everyone is equal and I'm getting tired of being treated like I'm not. And that right there, is the pathetic life of a chair that you probably didn't even realize was that bad until you read this. So we all know that school can be very boring and stressful but as every new week comes, we can always look forward to the weekend. No matter how hard or rough that week is, once it hits Friday, you're mindset becomes so much more positive. For us students, the weekend (mainly Friday and Saturday) just mean the freedom to hang out with our friends and have a good time. We don't have to worry about getting up early or going to bed at a decent time, we just live our lives however we want for these 2 days and it's amazing! But then comes Sunday. The worst day of them all because even if you do hang out with friends or have fun this day, you still have to go home, do homework, prepare for school, and go to bed a reasonable hour because you have to wake up early the next morning. Sometimes I feel like each individual day goes by so incredibly slow and every day is just a repetition of itself. For me, my routine is just school, soccer, homework, sleep and then I wake up the next day and just do the exact same thing. It kind of feels like were living in a blur and no one even notices because we are so caught up in whatever is going on in our lives. But with that being said, the weekend is our time to let loose and actually do things that we find fun, and that right there, is why we have something to look forward to every single week of our lives.
Well, I'm back at school after having a week off for break and I can easily say that it was one of the best weeks of my life. Break definitely went by way to fast and I'm so not ready to get back into school and homework. Anyways, the first part of break I just hung out with friends and relaxed and then on Wednesday I left for Las Vegas, Nevada with my soccer team for a college showcase.
This trip was so incredible and what made it even better is that we stayed in the Trump Tower which is so nice and our rooms were amazing. The first two days we just explored Vegas, walked on the strip, and shopped A LOT. Then on Friday is when all of our games started. We played 4 total games and my team did not do so good. We hadn't played with each other since December so it was definitely a struggle getting back in our groove. We played teams for Northern California, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Minneapolis. These teams were extremely better than the teams we have played in Texas so we weren't used to the competition. In the end, we ended up losing three games and tying one but at least we got the experience! As a girl on my team said we put the [loss] in Las Vegas. Other than the fact that we didn't play so well, I still had a blast. I bought a lot of clothes and the food there was really good. We had Italian every night so we could get a carb load for our games and it was oh so delicious. I had an amazing time there with my team and I hope that one day I will get to go back. Let me just say, I don't think anyone is more excited than me and my soccer team for spring break. We will be traveling to Las Vegas and will be staying in the Trump Towers. We are very blessed and fortunate to have a coach that is willing to take and coach us on these trips. We leave on March 14th which is exactly 12 days away, I repeat only 12 days away and I couldn't be more ecstatic.
We have only one more week of school so basically just 5 more days of learning till spring break. I have a feeling that next week is going to be one of the slowest of my life just because I will be looking forward to break the entire week. I plan on having the best time ever and getting tan while doing it. I plan on making sure that the Friday we get out, I will stay home and finish all of my homework and/or projects that need to be done because no way am I going to worry about dumb school work while I'm having the time of my life in Vegas. Lets just hope this next week isn't too terrible:( Anyone who is an athlete knows that there is always that one person you look up to in your sport. Well for me, that person would be Alex Morgan.
For starters her love for sports shows as she is an ambassador of soccer throughout the entire world. Her love for the game shows when she is playing for the USWNT as a star forward and is a leader not only for the team but for other younger athletes out there. Alex Morgan also effects this technology based world in so many ways. Nowadays young athletes like myself use social media and the internet to connect with people. It is important that we are able to follow along on her journey through social media like twitter, instagram, youtube, etc because we are able to get an insider view of whats it like to be a professional athlete which us young athletes quite enjoy. Another biggie is her effect on modern day literature. Alex Morgan has her own series of 3 books for younger girls called 'The Kicks'. She also has a book called 'Breakaway, Beyond the Goal" which is a book about her journey so far as an athlete and how she went pro. I have read all of these books and I can say they are some of the coolest books I've read. For people that look up to her, it is cool to be able to read about her and learn things that you wouldn't have before. Her writing has influenced so many preteen girls and her books also made it onto the New York Times Best Seller List. Alex Morgan is a huge factor in arts and entertainment. For some, she is the reason people turn on their T.V's to even watch professional soccer. Because of how well known she is throughout the world, people will look up to her in every way imaginable and little does she know how much effect she actually has on people. Alex Morgan also has such a big title because of the way young athletes or even adults view and observe her. When we think of her we think of how amazing she is at her sport, her beauty that got her into modeling, and just the way that she presents herself to the world. She is very humble which a lot of people recognize and respect because it makes it easier to relate our experience to hers. People also view her from her beauty and that can teach people that you can be an athlete and at the same time be modeling or sponsering for different companies. She teaches people to never hold back and to set your goals high. From some, Alex Morgan can be seen as a modern day Mia Hamm. Throughout US women's soccer history, Mia Hamm has always been a legend that us athletes look up to. But now she is retired and Alex has stepped up to the plate. She showed everyone that even a young athlete like her can be known worldwide for her talent. Lastly, Morgan is all over women's soccer news. She is at her peak in her career almost scoring at every single game she plays in, which brings her this huge title. Everything she does or says is broadcasted whether on some form of news or even on social media. All in all, Alex Morgan is and will forever be a legend in women's soccer as she influences so many people throughout the world. The power of just one thing in life has an effect on everything. Just like one smile can start a friendship, one word can start a fight, one look can save a relationship, and one person can change a life. These all demonstrate how just doing or saying ONE thing can have multiple perks or even consequences. The power of one is changing peoples lives for the worse or better.
Some of its perks are starting a friendship or relationship. When you're in the hallway or just anywhere in general, a soft smile can make someones day and chances are they are going to smile back. Before you even know it, you and that person start talking all the time and a friendship immediately forms and it all started just from ONE smile. Also if you're in a relationship with someone and you having problems or him/her are going through some rough times, just one simple look can save and grow your relationship stronger. You can give them a look that lets them know you are there for them, that you care, and that you are committed the the relationship. However, the power of one shows its downsides all the time. If you and a friend are disagreeing or arguing, just one single word you or they say can start up a fight. That one word most likely hurt or offended that person in some way shape or form and you don't even realize it at the time. Also one person can change or ruin your life. Lets say you are hanging around the wrong friend or group of friends and those people end up ruining your life by peer pressuring you into making wrong decisions like using drugs or alcohol. There are so many ways that the power of one effects so many people and the challenge for us is to just think before we speak and use our words wisely. Right now I would say my biggest priorities in life are my grades and soccer. I set a goal for myself at the beginning of the year to have 94's or above in all my classes and as of right now I am on track. This semester I have English, Spanish, and Geometry and by far the hardest class to maintain and A average in would be Spanish. I struggle a lot in that class just because I find it very hard to memorize everything. As for English and Geometry, those are my easy classes where I pretty much understand everything I learn
My next priority would definitely have to be soccer. For club season, we have had a two month break which is awesome so I can focus on school soccer. I am one of the ten freshman who made the JV1 team here at Flower Mound so I need to be pretty consistent during practices to show my coaches I deserve this spot. We have practice everyday for an hour and my biggest thing is making sure I am giving all of my effort. Putting in all this hard work pays off when I'm on the field doing my thing. I get easily frustrated if I have an off day during a practice because I worry that I won't end up playing in the next game. I just have to keep remembering that success isn't given, it's earned! Something I've always wanted to do is open up my own cafe somewhat like a corner bakery. In my mind I picture this cafe being super cute with awesome decorations that everyone would love. We would sell foods like soups, salads, sandwiches, pasta, mac n cheese, homemade cookies, and all that fun stuff. It hasn't came to me yet what I would call this cafe but it's gonna be great once I figure it out. I want it to be a privately owned business where there's only one and it's the one I own.
